Now Pursuing School Districts for Juul Mass Tort

Committed to Fighting the Juul Epidemic
|

While e-cigarettes were once thought as a safer alternative to smoking tobacco cigarettes, studies have found that they are in fact more dangerous. With its trendy design and enticing variety of flavors, teens are one of the biggest markets using Juul devices.

One Juul pod contains 59 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter of liquid. This is essentially the same amount of nicotine as one pack of cigarettes. Juul devices do not have filters, so users are exposed to 100% of the nicotine in the pod.

In 2019, 27.5% of high school students reported using e-cigarettes, a 1,800% increase from 2011-2019. In fact, teens are 4 times more likely to begin smoking e-cigarettes than traditional cigarettes. This alarming increase in teen use has led to major issues in schools. They are a huge distraction and require extra policing, discipline, and resources that should be used towards bettering the student’s education.

Dangerous side effects include:

  • Addiction to nicotine
  • Reactive airway disease
  • “Popcorn” lung
  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonitis
  • Ischemic stroke
  • Cardiovascular injuries (M.I., atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease)
  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
  • Pulmonary edema
  • Bronchiolitis obliterans (airway scarring)
  • Chemical pneumonia
  • Pulmonary fibrosis

Due to the combination of the sleek design, partnered with the misleading marketing tactics and toxic nicotine levels, Juul use has become an epidemic amongst our nations’ youth.
